West of the plot on the crest of the ridge is a thin band of Virginia pine growing along the cliff edge. See plots USFS.348,349,350.;Mid successional shagbark hickory - rock oak woodland on a steep rocky well drained slope. Plot is very near the crest of the ridge. Many openings caused by death of chestnut oaks with maple regeneration. Homogeneity is characterized by patchy openings that will be taken in by the plot. Quercus prinus cored; dbh 34 cm age approx 50 years.
Representativeness
USFS plots were placed at random points along transects. This transect was placed to sample the oak pine diversity that occurs on North Fork Mountain. This pot landed in a dry oak hickory woodland.
